In an octopus’s garden…

21 Jul

For those who know me, I really love to garden. Since red ants are pretty popular in these parts (see this article), I’m pretty freaked out by the idea of spending time actually in the yard. So, I decided to plant some herbs in some planters we had. Five of the planters came from my good friend Mary Beth as part of an amazing wedding gift basket she put together. The other six were used in the wedding as part of the decorations outside.

I planted thyme, basil, oregano and cilantro on Sunday. Yesterday, we found some sprouts in the thyme and basil. Homemade pesto, here we come!

By the way, our friend Rachel also has a good garden going at her new home in Louisville.

We’ve moved

08 Jul

Dustin and I have moved to Bluffton, South Carolina. If you want to know more about the city, here’s a link to the Wikipedia page.

A few days after we got back from our honeymoon, Dustin and his sister Ashley trekked down to South Carolina in search of a place for us to live. Dustin also started his job at BFG Interactive, where he now works as a Flash developer. After a couple of days of so-so houses, Dustin saw this one and knew for sure it had to be ours.

It’s a beautiful 3 bedroom/ 2 bathroom house in Bluffton. All of the bedrooms are decent size. Our master bathroom has his and her sinks. We finally have room for a kitchen table and a desk again, so maybe we’ll buy those soon. There’s a small backyard, where the landlord just planted an orange tree. Our back porch is huge! We can’t wait to start hosting parties (and guests) at the new place.

For those of you who don’t know, when I finally moved down, I brought a caravan with me… Dustin’s mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law and nephew…. my mother and cousin… and Dustin’s sister’s boyfriend… all came down to help us move and to enjoy the Fourth of July at a beach.

By the way, we are 20 minutes from the beach and about a half hour from Savannah. Jealous yet? Don’t be… we want everyone to come visit, so just think of this as a new vacation spot on the cheap. :-)
