A sad day

25 May

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.

Yesterday, we lost a very dear friend and family member. Dustin’s grandfather, W. Joseph Sparks, died this morning after a longtime battle with cancer.

Joe was a very loving, kind and generous person, and we will miss him very much. Dustin has taken many of his core values and attitudes toward life from his grandfather. He has always striven to be the same kind of person Joe was. From the moment you walked into the door at Joe’s house, you knew you were family. He always treated the people he met as if it were the last day he would see them.

He made sure you felt loved and cared for, even when you were there to make sure he was taking care of himself.

I will always remember Joe the most for what I call the “Sparks sense of humor,” a quirky and witty on-the-spot word turn that is very unique and fun. Dustin, his father and his uncles all have the same sense of humor, and it stems directly from Joe.

The quote above is from Dr. Seuss, and I think it best describes the way Joe would want us to feel. He loved to see the members of his family through their achievements and successes, and he wanted to be there for the best and worst days of our lives. I know he’ll still be with us in our hearts as we all continue to grow, live and love. Our hearts today are in mourning, but our minds are sifting through all the happy times we shared with Joe.

Fiesta in our future

21 May

I realized recently that we never told you all where we’re going for our honeymoon!

We have decided we’re going to an all-inclusive resort in CANCUN for our honeymoon. While I have been to Cancun before, it’s been a long time, and Dustin has never been to Mexico. We plan on enjoying the beaches, exploring the historical sites and enjoying the benefits of the all-inclusive resort. We’re staying for six nights at Cancun Palace, which is one of a few Palace hotels in the area. If you go to the website, there are a ton of pictures of the hotel and the property in general.

On our trip, we can go to any of the Palace hotels for anything (except the room, of course) for free (food, travel, pools, beaches, whatever…). We figure this way we don’t have to worry about money or much else on our honeymoon, and we can relax after this extremely chaotic and long few weeks.

Book your hotel room

12 May

Favors and place cards and decorations… OH MY!

We are getting to the tiny details this week. We’ve been constantly working on wedding stuff for the past few weeks, and these next couple of weeks are going to be wedding, wedding, wedding. Today is another craft day too!

While we’re out here working, we need all of you to make sure you’ve RSVP-ed and booked your hotel room. If you don’t RSVP, we have to guess if you’re coming or not… meaning if we think you’re coming, you get added to the caterer count, we make a place card for you, we rent chairs for you, etc. It would helpful to us that you make sure we know what you are doing so we can plan accordingly. If you are bringing a guest, please let us know their name so we can make a place card and seat them with you. If you are bringing a child, please let us know your child’s name, what kind of seat they will need and whether they will eat the chicken fingers and fries we have ordered for children. We need to know about the children at the same time as the adults– meaning please contact us via e-mail, on Facebook, on this blog or by phone AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Also, for those of you coming from out of town, we have reserved a hotel block at a group rate for you at the Doubletree Suites (link is on the right to reserve). The hotel is less than a mile from the venue. I called every hotel in the area for group rates and this was the best deal for our guests. The group rate expires next week. So if you plan to get a hotel room, please book it now. Again, there is a link on the right to book online or you can call them and tell them you’re part of the Kerman-Sparks wedding.

We are excited that you can come celebrate the big day with us, and we can’t wait to see you all!
