So, we’re almost at the 5-month mark, and we feel like we’re doing a pretty good job of staying on track and not stressing over the planning so far.
For those of you who might not know, Dustin and I have a pretty modern taste, and so we thought it was only appropriate to have a modern-themed wedding. What is a modern wedding, you ask? Great question!
When you talk about a modern style in architecture, interior design or even fashion, you’re talking about an uncluttered look. Something with sleek lines and open space would be appropriate for this type of style. It’s a simple style, but comes across very elegant and sophisticated. Think of the style of furniture at IKEA as an example of modern.
Taking that to a wedding them means a minimalistic style with at least a neutral base in color (thus the reason our wedding colors are black, ivory and teal). The teal is our pop color, something to make it a little unorthodox and fun.
If you look in the wedding magazines, you will see a lot of push for this vintage, traditional look, which is something we think is fun to look at, but not really our style as a couple or as individuals. Yes, it looks like a fun idea to have glass pitchers filled with fruit and lemonade, but it’s not really the right fit for us.
So, as you look at some of the styles of items (like cakes) that we pick out, keep this in mind. We are really looking for elegant and simple. I think us deciding this early on was one of the reasons we are doing so well now and haven’t really stressed as much as we could have. So far, the only thing that teeters on the line of traditional is the dress, and that’s still more modern than a real traditional dress would be.
